La Estrella del Paso, formerly Diocesan Migrant and Refugee Services, recently celebrated their 40th Anniversary on May 17th, 2026. Through the dedicated efforts of immigration professionals, volunteers, and generous donors, they provide free and low-cost legal services to individuals, children and families. Since their founding in 1986, they have provided more than 600,000 services, creating a ripple effect of countless lives touched.
Their services extend not only to lay people in need, but also to many familiar faces in the clergy of El Paso. Through the years, Estrella del Paso has helped many priests and religious sisters from other counties through the visa and residency process to enable them to serve our Diocese of El Paso community. One such priest is Rev. Wilbert Colas, a Haitian priest who now serves as Parochial Vicar at St. Raphael Parish. “Estrella Del Paso is a group of brothers and sisters who are offering a service of quality with love and understanding to all, especially to those who come from abroad in the objective of obtaining a legal status in the United States,” he says, “Let us continue to pray for Estrella Del Paso that each member can be blessed, protected and healthy to continue to serve with the same Spirit of love to one another.”
The Catholic Foundation’s Estrella del Paso Endowment Fund provides long-term financial support for Estrella del Paso’s ministry. As we celebrate their anniversary and the many valuable services they provide to our Diocese of El Paso community, please prayerfully consider learning more about their endowment fund and making a donation today to ensure their vital mission can continue for many more years to come.
