This year, the Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso invites you to stay in love with God and to reflect on the ways you feel closer to Him. What brings you joy, what gives you excitement, what makes you feel alive during the pandemic, what is God is calling you to do this year, and what are your resolutions? We encourage you to develop holy habits and stay in love with God.
Here’s what Pedro Arrupe, SJ, a Spanish priest born in 1907 who dedicated his life to helping others, has to say about staying in love with God. “Nothing is more practical than finding God than falling in Love in a quite absolute, final way, what you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, whom you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.” As Father Arrupe tells you, let yourself be amazed by the practice of joy and gratitude in your life.
Ten Holy Habits for 2021
- Begin your day with a morning offering.
- Enjoy the wait. Use the time that “you’re stuck” to be present or to pray .
- Learn about the history of your faith and apply it to today.
- Pick someone to pray for throughout the day.
- Put together a small group together to reflect each week.
- Give away something you love.
- Get your Vitamin D with quick walk or just sitting outside enjoying God’s beauty.
- Ask a priest to bless your house or business in 2021.
- Pray a daily or weekly rosary and consider gathering on Zoom to share the experience.
- Awaken each day and ask God for the courage to be open to continuing revelation and epiphanies, great and small.
