Progress Ministry Spotlight: Peace & Justice Ministry
Progress Ministry Spotlight: Peace & Justice Ministry

Progress, the Catholic Ministry Appeal invites you to continue supporting the Peace & Justice Ministry in the Diocese of El Paso. The Progress Annual Appeal, above all else, is based on the concept of Christian Stewardship. Stewardship is centered on the daily recognition that we are not the absolute owners of ourselves, our time, our talents or material goods. Rather, we have received every gift of nature and grace from God.

The Peace and Justice Ministry promotes Catholic social teaching and fosters the social mission of the Church by serving as a resource to parishes to develop and maintain parish efforts which link direct service, advocacy, action and empowerment toward concerns of local, national, and global justice.

The ministry works on a variety of social justice issues at the local, national, and global levels with economic justice (poverty, labor, and trade) political participation, immigrant justice, criminal justice, and solidarity issues as its priorities. They developed this work based on the guiding principles from the Catholic Social Teachings and the Salt & Light Model (Salt & Light Global is an academic and humanitarian ministry equipping Christians to engage the culture for the glory of God) of social justice ministry.

The Peace & Justice Ministry envisions a society with transformed structures and persons with transformed hearts, so that the Reign of God becomes a visible presence amidst us on the US-Mexico borderland.
