Longtime St. Patrick Cathedral Parishioner Elvia Miles Passes Away

Elvia Mora Miles, a longtime member of St. Patrick Cathedral, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully at home on June 12, 2018 at the age of 95.

Elvia was born to Manuel F. Mora and Emma Rodriguez Mora on September 4, 1922 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the loving wife of Rudy Miles for 72 years until his death in 2016, and a stay-at-home mother to their 10 children.

Elvia was a lifetime member of the St. Patrick Altar Society and also served as president, a longtime member of the Pan American Round Table where she served on various committees, and one of the founding members of the Club Juvenil Deportivo of Ciudad Juárez. Elvia loved to knit and crochet and made many blankets for needy children and those suffering from cancer. She was also a member of the Christ Child Society and knitted layettes for poor babies. Elvia enjoyed bagging groceries for the disadvantaged families of El Paso on a weekly basis and looked forward to playing Canasta every Wednesday with her friends.

Elvia’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be to the Seminarian Education Endowment Fund, the Retired Priest Appreciation Fund, and the St. Patrick Cathedral Altar Society in memory of Elvia.
