The Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza Fund was created with a gift of $100,000. The organization was established by religious sisters in 1993 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1995. It’s a community of women dedicated to helping other women evolve from dependency into a state of self-sufficiency through advocacy, education, and leadership.

The Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza Fund was established to provide support for women in our community in perpetuity. An endowed fund of $100,000 provides an annual gift of $4,000 for the organization, a 4% distribution of the fund’s value. Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza will receive their first distribution in 2021.

Clients of Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza are nearly all Hispanic and the majority live in conditions of poverty. The organization serves strong women affected by language barriers and scarcity of economic and professional opportunities. In response to the needs of their target population, for decades Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza has provided programs in key areas—education, health, finances, spirituality, family and community development, and counseling. The organization supports the growth of their clients’ self-confidence, knowledge, and skills through an array of classes, including computers, the citizenship exam, English, cumbia aerobics, tai chi, knitting and more. Classes are made possible by a small army of committed, qualified volunteer instructors.

Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza was founded in 1993 after a four year extensive study of the needs of disadvantaged women living on the border. The study identified the need for women to experience themselves as individuals through programs that strengthen them, their families, and their communities. Donations to this fund will ensure that Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza can continue to pursue their vision.

Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza is located in the Centro San Juan Diego building that houses the diocesan Office of Religious Formation at 901 W. Main Drive in Sunset Heights.
