The origins of the churches of St. Joseph and St. Thomas in Kermit, Texas, began in the Catholic community in Wink in the early 1930s. Sacred Heart Church in Wink was closed in 1950 as Catholic services were moved to Kermit and St. Thomas Church was built. In 1960, parishioners of St. Joseph Chapel built a church for Spanish-speaking Catholics.
