When Loretto Academy was founded by the Sisters of Loretto in San Elizario, TX, in 1879, it was the first Catholic preparatory school for women in the Southwest. Loretto, at its present site in El Paso, was established in 1923. Today, Loretto is home to an active co-educational pre-school and elementary school as well as a middle school and high school program designed for young women.
